I have this issue on EE. My phone says tethered but other device never connects. Any idea how to fix. Have tried tethering to non EE phone and works fine.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Hi @Threluja,
Thanks for visiting the EE Community 🙂
I am sorry to hear you are having an issue using your mobile hotspot. We have no restriction on tethering whilst abroad, if your phone is able to connect on mobile data on the roaming network on its own connection, then there is nothing account side that would be causing it.
With you mentioning the non-EE phone, do you mean that tethers successfully through the EE phone connection and it is just the laptop that wont or have you not tested that or another device on the EE hotspot?
Have you restarted both the phone and laptop and set the laptop to "forget" the hotspot Wi-Fi to connect as if for the first time again after restarting?

@Threluja , have you looked at hotspot on your phone, there is a wifi password and then go to your laptop and look for hotspot and make sure you set to join and make sure it has the wifi password set as the one from your phone, have you done that?

Yep it connects, in that you get tethering showing on both laptop and phone but never get an IP and wireless signal has an exclamation through it

Have tethered to other phones here fine just not my EE phone which has worked before but contract changed this year. Has Roaming Pass and working fine but won’t allow tethering

@Threluja , you say roaming pass, are you abroad? If so, do you not have wifi where you are, are you not able to use that for your laptop?

Trying to avoid paying for WiFi by using the hotspot 👍

@Threluja , wifi is usually free to use, are you sure you have to pay for it?

If it was free I’d be using it, definitely only free in bar area not back in rooms
