For the cheapest per-minute rate on an outgoing call, an Indian SIM may well be cheaper.
If you're looking to make a few calls, a 60minute roaming bundle might work out cheaper and would be more convenient. Same goes for receiving calls, where callers dial your UK number as normal.
Prices are available at https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs including links to add-ons.

Outside the EU, you cannot use your usual UK allowances there but will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs/countries/india.
If you are on contract, just remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to ensure the roaming ability is enabled on your account.
If you are on PAYG, just make sure you had already used your PAYG SIM to make a call or text in the UK.
