We are travelling in Canada and neither my nor my wife’s hotspots will allow our kids to connect on hotspot. Anyone have any ideas on why not? Thanks so much.

Hi @MarkH09

Thanks for posting on the community.

Can I just check, can you and your wife access data and have a roaming add-on?

If so, have you tried connecting to another network and trying the hotspot again?

Leanne 🙂

Can your kids use their phones normally w/out connecting over WiFi to your hotspots?

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

No their data has been turned off as they don’t have add on roaming so will cost a lot. Both my wife and I have tried connecting to each other too and this does not work either. In my phone the link button appears as if she is connected but on her phone the connection attempt just keeps spinning.

There should be nowt preventing 2 phones connecting over WiFi to each other. It's not using the mobile network & so is not roaming. Both phones will be using the hotspot's data.

Oh brilliant! That fixed it. Thanks so much. I had no idea that different host networks could limit hotspot connection from working. Thanks again

Thanks Leanne sorted it it was a hosting network issue. 😊
