Help I am abroad and cannot receive messages for 2 step bank verification!

On many travels abroad, although not on Roaming, I am able to receive 2 bank verification notices, NHS texts etc.  I find this is not the case this September, and I am not sure what has changed at EE.  Can anybody advise please?  To all EE is extremely expensive from where I am at the moment.

@dnsmukasa : If you are abroad & receiving texts you are roaming. Where are you now?

Can you make calls & texts?

Are you on contract or PAYG? Had you used that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before you left UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Otherwise if you are on contract you need to call CS to get your roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. on Skype over WiFi. It should be free.

Thanks for your response.  I did not  am not activate Roaming as I rushed out the country, but have NEVER had this problem abroad.  A welcome text message is sent on first connection, as the plane lands and links to the Ugandan network and also advises of charges.   I am on EE contract for very many years, and this has never happened to me before.  It is bad for business as it stymies two factor authentication now required by financial institutions.  I am told by EE WhatsApp that I need a password that is not the MYEE password, can you believe that?  They said, "unfortunately, now there are no ways to validate the account to get into it and make the changes", so in 2024 I am now locked out until my return to the UK.  This is outrageous!

Hi @dnsmukasa

Are you able to send and receive normal text messages while abroad?

If you can do, it will indicate that your roaming services are active.

Ali

Perhaps you had roaming enabled in EU but not worldwide.

Roaming means using your phone on foreign networks, which in turn creates the ability to send & receive SMS, make & receive calls and use mobile data.

Which country were you in when you were last able to roam? Which country are you in now?

Uganda, Greece, Uganda
