I am going to the USA (from the UK) for a year, and I was wondering if I can use my existing UK data or whether I have to get a USA data add-on, and if the latter what is the cheapest way of doing it?

Roaming charges are listed at https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs
Adding the £25/month Roam Abroad pass enables use of your UK allowances in the USA subject to a 50GB/month data-FUP.
EE's roaming services are intended for UK-residents taking short trips abroad, not those resident-abroad long-term. This is enforced by the "Stable Links policy" which broadly requires usage in the UK for 2 months out of 4. General advice is that EE will contact you before enforcing this.
