Currently unavailable

Hi, I recently switched my number from contract to Pay As You Go. I topped up £5 and can see the balance on MyEE. I’m currently in Greece and the SIM connects to Cosmote, but I can’t receive or make calls – callers sometimes get a “currently unavailable” message. I need this number active mainly to receive calls and  SMS from UK services (e.g. HMRC, banks).

Could you please check if my PAYG account is fully activated for roaming and incoming calls? Thank you.

Good morning @KonStamp.

Welcome to the Community!

As @Schockwave has mentioned here, any pay as you go SIM needs to be activated on the UK network before it can be used abroad; this includes a migration of an existing account that keeps the same number and SIM.

We always recommend when possible for customers to ensure they're in the UK when the switch takes place, as otherwise this will not work until you return.

Hello @KonStamp ,

Welcome to the community,

Did you activate your SIM card and use it before going to Greece. If you did not, then it will not work,as it first has to be activated in the UK, even though you have not changed your number, but going from a monthly contract to pay as you go, means that you are starting again, we cannot do anything, if you are there for a long time, then your best bet is to send the SIM card back to the UK, get someone to make a chargeable call or text and then send it back to you.
