Csn anyone explain what has happened to EU roaming , and the Roam Travel Pass?

I transferred one my numbers to EE from BT on 9th December, at the time I explained that it would need to be used in the EU in March for about 16 days. I was advised about the daily rate (£2.47), but that a monthly Roam Travel Pass for £25 would be more cost effective. On checking my account this month, the Roam Travel Pass  does not appear to be available, and the community here suggests they stopped being offered on 4th Dec 2024.  When I check the roaming options for my number, I get the daily rate add-on, plus something "Coming soon" - a 7 day pass for £15 .  So what is the score ?  At £25, 16 days was a good saving over the £2.47pd (<£40), but it seems I may now need 2 x 7 day passes ( WHEN they actually become available - does anyone know ?) , plus 2 days of roaming (£35).  This all seems advertised as a better thing for customers, but in actuality seems to be a big price hike for EU travelling over 11 days.

I do see there are Data roaming add on's - e.g. for 5GB, 10GB and 20GB , but are they valid for EU roaming? And if so, would I still get charged the daily rate if the a text or call is made from the phone ?

@60s_Gonzo  You might want to read THIS  and this change happened before you changed over to EE.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

@Chris_B  Yes, I did thank you. I am annoyed as the operator definitely told me there was a £25 add-on at the time  which would make it cheaper (and that was Friday 6th or Sat 7th). But I can see there are now no add-ons at all now - just a 7 day pass "coming soon" ( does *anyone* know if they will be out by March ?)  . The cost of that for 16 days will be ~£35 ( 2 x 7 day passes and 2 x daily rates), so still cheaper  than the daily rate for 16 days, but definitely not £25.  A bit of a price hike. Oh well

@60s_Gonzo  You purchase it when you get there. You’ll get a text when you start up the device and you can not get this before hand.  You just need to make sure roaming is enabled on your account before you leave the UK

 text ROAMING to 150

The ability to connect to a roaming network has nothing to do with any billing add-on.

I'm in a similar position, I used the £25pm add on all last year while travelling Australia, it worked brilliantly. Now they've cancelled that service and hiked up the price for a much more limited service. Disappointed to say the least and will now just not use ee in the future.

Hi there @clinty1232

Thanks for coming to the community.

If you call us on 150, the team can check the account and plan and see what options are available for you.

For details on your current plan please see the Roaming Costs page when logged in, this will show all available Roaming Passes and charges.

Leanne.

Hi Leanne,

I’ve reviewed the available roaming plans, and unfortunately, they are significantly more expensive with much less data compared to the previous ‘add-on’ that was available before December 2024. The daily/weekly charges and limited data make it much less cost-effective than the previous £25 monthly fee to maintain my UK plan while abroad.

Unless the previous roaming option returns, I won’t be using EE’s roaming services and will instead opt for a more affordable local SIM when traveling.

@Chris_B

“a 7 day pass for £15”

“You purchase it when you get there. You’ll get a text when you start up the device and you can not get this before hand”

So just to be clear, this pass is available now  and is purchased at destination on arrival?

That is spot on @Dode_.

When you arrive and switch your phone on, you'll get the landing text with information on using your phone in that country and the standard costs.

There would be a link in that message for information about add-ons, and you'll be able to add the 7 day pass for £15.

@Michael_D  Thank you.

I presume then that if one doesn't purchase the £15 pass the £2.47 per day charge will automatically apply?
