Can’t connect to network in Australia

DGK1

Hi I can’t access text, make calls, or access internet (except through WiFi) despite having roam abroad and also having purchased additional minutes to allow me to call when not in Australia…I’m travelling on to Japan. I have switched off phone, tried to access networks manually but all I get is SOS. I have tried to contact EE but the bot pretty unhelpful and have waited 3 hours to have my query dealt with. I can’t access work emails as it requires a passcode via text etc…feel a little let down by EE and also that I must be a tech failure :-). Urgent help would be appreciated.

@DGK1 : Are you on contract or PAYG? Had you used that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before you left UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Otherwise if you are on contract you need to call CS to get your roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. on Skype over WiFi. It should be free.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP
Hi
Unfortunately despite calling EE I bought a vodaphone sim in Aus problem not sorted. Have given up and will try and sort when I get back to UK…must be some simple script gone ary.

Hi there @DGK1

Thanks for coming back to us.

I am very sorry this was not resolved for you and hope you are having a lovely time in Australia and when you travel to Japan. The trip sounds amazing!

Did our mobile guides get the account looked into to make sure your roaming settings were correct when you called?

If you have a chance when roaming please call us again or when you return to the UK to see what is needed to use the phone abroad to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Thanks 🙂

Leanne.
