Pay as You Go SIMS

I have moved overseas & visit UK up to twice a year (for a month at a time).
My current monthly contract with EE ends soon so I am considering getting a PAYG SIM which I can then use while visiting.
I only use this phone on WiFi when living abroad for WhatsApp.

Am I right in saying that I can keep my phone number active as long as I use the phone once every 6 months? (eg for top up)

I currently subscribe to Apple Music through EE ( which I use abroad) so would this direct debit to EE be able to continue once my existing phone contract ends?

Thanks

Hello @petev00 ,

Welcome to the community,

If you have already moved abroad and want to change from a pay monthly to pay as you go, you would first need to use your SIM card in the UK for it to work abroad, so I would suggest you either get someone to activate it here in the UK and make a chargeable call or text first, then they can send it to you, or you would have to wait until you return to the UK.

Just for your information, contracts do not end, they carry on until you change, once you have reached the minimum term.

Yes, you are correct, you can keep your phone number active as long as you use it once every six months.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using web based app or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.

Thanks for reply.
I am in the UK at the moment so should be able to get everything sorted before I leave.

Unable to use this network when in South Africa so use another SA mobile phone when there so not worried about using it when abroad (apart from WIFi use) but just want to keep my UK number.

I will top up SIM when next visiting.
Presumably I would need to pay for Apple Music directly & no longer through EE if I cancel my existing contract?

@petev00 , thank you for letting me know, I would suggest you ask about Apple Music as I do not have the answer, but you can always do it directly through Apple, I am sure. If you are spending a lot of time in South Africa, then it is best to get a local SIM card, yes, cheaper to use over there.

Within every 180 days you need to make a chargeable action like making a chargeable call or text, topping up or buying a Pack or Add-on, not just using your mins, texts or data from your pack.

Once you cancel your contract by moving it to PAYG your EE Apple Music add-on will also be cancelled.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Home Broadband & Home Phone or Option 2 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

Thanks, hopefully I should be able to arrange for a top up/add online then every 6 months as don’t think it’s possible for me make a call from there as it will not pick up uk network.
