Buy a PAYG SIM from wherever you friend got it. You've got the standard £10 PAYG SIM. Only that £10 SIM is offered in the EE online shop.

i was the one who sent my friend a sim on the refer a friend using this link

https://ee.co.uk/pay-as-you-go-packs-refer

Well, that link doesn't give 20GB for £10.

what came through the post says 20GB for £10 - i am reading this myself

maybe i followed a link that gives £10 for 20GB somehow.

what i want to know is how can i get this applied to my account without changing me number to another network and joining back with a new sim

You can't apply that plan to your existing SIM & no. You would need to order a new SIM with that plan & then ask CS to transfer your existing no. to it.

i see.

so just to check - will it be possible for CS to transfer my number from one EE sim card to another EE simcard without me having to transfer the number to an external network?

Yes, they are able to do that for PAYG, just not for contract.
