PAYG pack changes

Hello there,

Recently I noticed the PAYG packs got some substantial data bumps, which is great. But it quite go me suspicious when it states the speed will be capped at 25 Mbps. On the website it says this is applying to anyone getting a new PAYG SIM card from now on, which makes sense. So I have some questions on my mind about all these changes.

Will my current pack suffer anything if I leave it as it is and keep on topping it up as usual?

Would my data speed be capped at 25 Mbps if I switch to any of the new pack available at the moment?

Thanks.

hi Leanne,

It was giving me the pack info with all the added options the operator had added to make up the difference from my legacy pack.

I managed to get a manager and got told there's no going back once they have updated it from legacy to the reset and reapplying to a new post March pack.

I ended up getting forced to upgrade to PayM and had that got messed up too, following another manager and him fixing it, i now have unlm. Calls, texts, data with no speed restrictions and 1 extra add-on like gamepass for 5 pounds less than the 30 I was paying before.

Not happy about this as it's breach of ToC's but I had no other choice as I rely on the speed given before (250 Mbps+ at all hours)

Now I'm faced with a new issue I had to fix myself which is EE forcing your device to stay in 5G at all times and having removed the preferred network option from my phone's menu - by using a third party app called "Band selector" from the Playstore just to stay on 4G as it's twice as fast as 5G.

Bit of a joke and waste of 10 hours on the phone to them as well as a years loyalty.

Thanks for replying and trying to help .

Thanks for the update @tphxplays

I'm sorry to hear it took so long to find a solution.

James

I'm sorry to hear about these unfortunate experiences but it sounds like you got a good deal on PAYM

I am however disappointed to learn that if you do go to 5G that you will lose the ability to manually restrict to 4g as well so its useful to note that, I remember the pain when 4g came in and had low coverage, you would be on the edge of a 4g signal area with 1 bar and it being next to useless and not able to fall back.

So another reason not to upgrade just yet as id be using Iphone 🙂

Yeah it's completely baffling they are forcing out 4G when it's 3G being discontinued so to speak.

I can't speak for iPhones, I haven't encountered posts having that issue so it could be that it's android specific (Apple is far more closed off and refuse to accommodate most companies including Verizon or EE)

I'd definitely do some digging on that if I were you, just in case.

I'm stuck in an area where 5G at best drains my battery 15-20% faster due to having a SD888 chipset as well as having speeds below 150mbps - opposed to LTE(4G+) of 250-350 Mbps regardless of time a day.
