PAYG abroad

I recently went on PAYG following advice from EE as I am living in Nepal for 2 years, so I have a Nepal Sim card here but I want to keep my UK number. I was told to send a text every month from my EE UK SIM to keep the account active, but it won't go through. I have topped up my account so the money is there. I went on chat on EE who said to ring 150 but that won't work. The calling from abroad number on EE website doesn't work for me either. What am I doing wrong?!
