PAYG? Have we purchased the wrong sim?

I am mobile phone inept. I have no idea what I am doing with them. My partner has purchased a very simple phone in an attempt to emulate the setup I have. What I have, is an Alcatel PAYG mobile phone that remains active, and retains credit, as long as I make a phone call every so often. The sim card she has purchased from Amazon seems the right one, but there is reference to 8GB of data and 500 minutes of unlimited texts and so on. It supposedly comes with £10 credit on activation. Is this the wrong sim? Is it some sort of pack sim requiring monthly renewal or the credit will disappear?
She has no need of the 8 GB of data or the 500 mins of unlimited texts as she will hardly ever use it. I figure this is the wrong sim card?

When was this SIM bought? It could take 24 hours for the credit to appear.

It looks like everything is as it should be now as £10 of credit has appeared this morning.
I now feel confident about using this phone. It is a very easy to use phone meant for the elderly. Now I know how to keep credit on it for long periods (a call or text once in every 6 months) it should prove its worth as an emergency phone.
