New PAYG roaming charges from June 6

Hello .. I'm in France, arrived last week, using my rolling monthly PAYG pack with no problem for text/call/data as I have done in the past. Should I have received info by now on how to pay the new daily/weekly fee to continue to do this? Nothing received so far and I don't want to find I'm suddenly paying standard charges! Cant find any helpful info on this in my account. Advice appreciated! Many thanks.

Hi @XRaySpeX

Calls, texts and data within the Republic of Ireland are included in your allowance, our Roaming Costs | Help | EE shows full details 🙂

Hi @JV999

Have you had a text to opt in to either of our roaming add-ons since the 6th June?

Do you have an active subscription pack and credit?

Leanne.

@Leanne_T : Ah, yes, of course the Roaming Tool for Ireland shows you can use your pack there w/out any extra charges.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

Yes, I got one about 0920 this morning but it assumed I hadn't already taken out a £10 7-day roaming deal. And as my balance still includes that £10, I still don't know where I stand.

And yes, I subscribe to the monthly 250MB data deal.

Does it tell you what is active on our add-on status checker or in your My EE account, @JV999?

Chris

If that is the case, why have I received the following text message this afternoon, 10th of June, whilst on Anglesey/north Wales?!???🤬🤬🤬

"Welcome to Ireland. There is now a charge to access to your pack allowances, Free Boost or add-on while you're here.

It will cost £2.50 for 24 hours access or you can choose to pay £10.00 for 7 days access.

For 24 hours access text ROAMEU1D to 150 or for 7 days text use ROAMEU7D

If you don't have an active pack, or choose not to pay the daily/weekly charges, you'll be charged 40p/min, 20p per text and need a EU data add on add-on.ee.co.uk

To find out more about roaming in the EU click here https://ee.co.uk/help/paygeuroaming

Calls to countries outside of the EU cost£1.20/min and texts 50p each.

For Customer Services call +447953966250. In case of Emergency, dial 112. Enjoy your trip!"

Just to add to this....

I submitted a ROAMINGEU7D text (£10) on 5 June at 2025 in anticipation of the new charges.  I received an acknowledement text two minutes later, containing a load of largely irrelevant detail about general text messages.

Imagine my concern (rage and disbelief would be better words) when I discovered on 8 June that I my £10 didn't provide EU roaming after all.  Instead, I was charged for calls (within France) that should have been free under my PAYG £5 data pack. My balance had shrunk to £0.15.  All these calls were to a French recovery service following a road accident, so I was greatly inconvenienced when my balance was used up and I was summarily cut off mid call.  I added £50 to allow further emergency calls (all of which should have been free). The next day, my balance had shrunk by £7.11.  To prevent further charges (in a time of considerable stress) I again submitted ROAMINGEU7D.

In all, EE has overcharged me £32.19.  I'd like this refunded to my balance.  Please confirm that this will happen.

I looked but could find nothing described as "active".  In fact, the word "active" didn't appear anywhere.  Can you be more specific?

Hello @JV999

I am very sorry to hear your add-on did not activate and as a result you have been billed for calls.

I have sent you a private message for more details.

Speak soon,

Katie

Hi @Elsa7

Welcome to the community.

This sounds like your phone has picked a signal up indicating you are in roaming.

Are you still connected to EE?
