You can contact EE-CS and request cancellation of your pay-monthly plan and migration to PAYG, which requires 30days notice - you'll retain your number as a matter of course.
Providing you're outside your minimum contractual term, there is no charge for this. If you're within your minimum-term, then you can either wait for that to finish, or pay early termination charges roughly equivalent to your remaining monthly fees minus a 4% discount.

To add to this post the PAYG account/transfer will need to be done and used in the UK on EE network for it to work.
