I bought my son £15 credit with unlimited calls and text messages, and he only started using on Christmas Day. He’s text regularly, made no phone calls and sent 4 picture messages.
he has downloaded a chess app and played on this online with his cousin - but I assumed this would only use up his data, rather than his credit. Is this where all his credit has gone? Or am I right in that his data should have decreased (it hasn’t) rather than his credit (balance now £0)?

@Kayleigh1188 Credit on account can not be used towards data usage you need to purchase a data add on to have data.
The £15 credit was used to purchase a pack and that gives you a set allowance of calls/text and data for 30 days There is no credit on the account as a £15 pack was purchased with the credit that got put on the account.
Picture message are not included with the pack and are changeable.
text AL to 150 and post the return message. Removing any personal information.

What does texting AL to 150 from his phone fully report verbatim (it is free)?
