Hello - yesterday I had a clear out of files my laptop deleting cookies in the process. When I tried to log-in to my Amazon and currency exchange accounts I discovered that my number was no longer active (I last used it two weeks ago but mainly use it to receive codes and messages from my son - I live in France but my French phone number is a recycled one and I don't want to use it as in the past it's been linked to a stranger's email address). After a day of trying to access my accounts I thought the easiest option would be to buy some credit which I've just done - but to no avail. I am effectively without a means of contact which could be an emergency (I am 72 and live alone in the countryside). How do i reactivate my number, please?

I would suggest calling us from another phone on 0800 956 6000 and no number will be needed, the team will get this looked into for you.

You live in France?
You need a stable UK connection and ebing outside of the UK abroad with a UK number for a long length of time will make the number stop working.
How long have you been in France this time round?

Yes, I live in France and have a stable UK connection - or at least thought I did. I used the phone just two weeks ago. The issue is that the contract was cancelled without warning and it's the number I used for security issues/log-ins. The French number is not secure as I once found myself in a stranger's AirBnB account and my Amazon code was sent to an unknown email address.

I won't be able to do this until I have another SIM - no means of contact other than email/Messenger or Skype.

Thank you Leanne; that's really helpful. As I mentioned before it shouldn't be an issue that I live in France; there are plenty of British immigrants who live here on a permanent basis and who go back and forth and maintain their UK numbers.
