Content control

Please could someone give me specific instructions how to turn off content control on my SIM only PAYG WITHOUT just providing a link to the page that tells me how to do it?

I have logged onto MyEE and there is NOT an option to adjust content control ..or if there is it’s buried somewhere inaccessible.

I’ve been through all the menu options I can see - no joy

I sent an SMS from my router (with the SIM installed) but received a message telling me the content control was unavailable. (And I don’t think one can switch it OFF here).

I’ve phoned the technical helpline but it cost me £5 before the price cap on my mobile contract (not EE) hung up the call.

is the option to switch it off only available under certain conditions?
I’m using Chrome under iOS

thanks in anticipation - it really shouldn’t be this hard to achieve

Hello @Fugazi ,

Welcome to the community,

As your are on pay as you go, you will have to ring customer service to get it turned off, only customers on contract can do this on their account.

It should not cost you £5 to ring customer service, you just press 150 on your keyboard, or there is a free number you can ring by clicking on the contact EE at the top of this page.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using Skype or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.

@Fugazi  To call customer services from a EE PAYG phone it’s 25p flat rate.   Not sure what number you’re calling at £5 but is not EE.

You could also go to an EE store with photo ID to request content lock to be removed.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

@Fugazi : On PAYG you can't control Content Lock from your MyEE. Instead you need to call EE with a credit card handy & pay a refundable token amount to prove you are over 18. Alternatively you can visit an EE store with some photo ID.

Thank you!
I will wait a while as I’m getting a pay monthly sim (the PayG sim was just to see what data rates I got before I committed)

Hi,

my phone is on Tesco , I used that rather than EE sim as I wanted the SIM in the router when I called in case technical support needed to run any diagnostics).

I called the number on the EE site 08454123662, I was charged ‘Access charge + 7p per minute’, my 8 minute call hit my £5 cost cap , so pleased I had a cap or I don’t know how much it’d have ended up paying. I think the access charge must be £4.50 ish.

i don’t know if EE are charging that or Tesco , seems a bit steep

Tesco piggy-backs on O2 not EE. That 0845 no. is a Service No. for which EE would have charged on PAYG an Access Charge of 44p / min & a Service Charge of 7p / min. which for an 8 min call add up to £4.08.

But why call EE on a Service No. when there is a perfectly good Freephone no.? That's just asking to be charged for nothing! EE does not put out an 0845 no. as its "Contact Us". Dunno where you got it from.

Thanks for your reply. I checked with Tesco, seems they charge 55p a minute for 08 numbers (FML) plus the call charge (7p) , so a lovely 62p per minute ..lesson well and truly learned there!

I got the 0845 number from the EE web site ... if it'd have given me a freephone option I'd (obviously) have taken that - ah well , water under the bridge.

Thanks for everyone's help - much appreciated
