if i placed an order for an upgrade and didn’t choose to pay upfront but changed my mind after the order is placed can i still pay the upfront cost ?

@d929_  You pay any upfront cost that is required for that device/tariff at that time, you don’t get a choice if you don’t want to pay it. 

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

okay, then once i place the order for the contact and if i don’t pay
upfront can i still pay a lump sum afterwards ?

You can make additional payments in your EE app and this would reduce future bill payments.
