However my shop in RUGBY has been closed and I'm unable to get to Daventry, I've been talked through the very "simple"  steps to transfer my data from my present phone to my new one . I've downloaded SmartSwitch but my concern is that I've had a few problems recently involving viruses , if I were to use this would it bring the viruses with it to my new phone ?

If it would then I'll just have to transfer all my contacts manually ?

When using SmartSwitch, you can select which of the app will be transferred over.

It will give you a list of all the content you can transfer. Open the Apps section and simply untick the apps you don't want.
It's actually a good time to untick all the apps you don't really need, so you start your new phone as fresh as possible.

What are your concerns regarding viruses?

SmartSwitch transfers user data, settings & apps.

I've got a heart beat monitor app on my current phone and am unable to uninstall it ,
This I've been told is causing my problems !!!
