International Calls & Texts From the UK

Making International calls & texts from the UK are always chargeable & are not included in any allowances. Some might mistakenly believe that they count towards roaming allowances but when in the UK you are not roaming.

International calls & texts can be rather expensive but EE has a free add-on that anyone, on PAYG or contract, can apply for to give these calls & texts at a fraction of the standard rates. To do so just text CALL ABROAD to 150. It will then last forever on your account.

However it has recently become almost impossible to find out these CALL ABROAD rates from searching the EE website Help pages. For that reason I have decided to publish them here, as follows.

PAYG CALL ABROAD RatesPAYG.JPG

Since writing this EE has introduced the £2 International Pass on contract as its Call Abroad add-on.

New Pay Monthly £2 pm CALL ABROAD Rates

Note: No reduced rates for texts.

Hi. I saw the pdf with the rates. Under Spain, for example, it says:

Landline: 8p

Mobile: 18p

Text: 6p

Does that mean that a call from my ee landline to a mobile in Spain will cost 8p per minute? Or is it only landline to landline?

Same for mobile: does mobile to landline cost the same as mobile to mobile (18p)?

Thanks for your help!!

@naj999 : The rates in this thread are only for calling from an EE mobile phone in the UK.  It's saying that for an EE contract mobile while still in UK calling to Spain to:

  • A Spanish landline: 8p / min.
  • A Spanish mobile: 18p / min.

Well, I just had a long and unsatisfactory chat conversation with ee and it turns out that those rates are out of date. It is now 18p for both landline and mobile.

I lodged a complaint so it may get updated (but I wouldn't hold your breath).

@naj999 : The above rates are as in the current EE standard and non-standard charges price guide - from 14 September 2021

It looks like this is now gone from newer contracts. I was on an old out of contract, contract and now you have to pay £21 a month to call a whole lot of countries abroad. I can't keep my old contract if I want to stay with EE.

Great if you actually make so many calls to another country each month, but not if you don't. EE have lost the plot, forcing £21 a month as the only option. Other companies are doing better deals for light to medium users:

Made a complaint but have been with EE for 16 years,so might end up leaving them now.

No, @SLA2000 , the free Call Abroad rates still apply to new contracts as in
