Roam abroad cost increase

Why has the cost of the roam abroad pass increased from £10 (August 2023) to £25 now? If I am away from home on either side of my billing date then I will be charged twice. Why should my billing date affect how I am charged? How can EE justify the massive price rise?

@Brian141 : That's the way EE has implemented it.

The Roam Abroad Pass costs £25 per billing month from the billing month you order it (text ROAMING PASS to 150) until the billing month you cancel it (text STOP ROAMING PASS to 150). For all billing months during which you have the Pass it is charged at the full £25. However if the Pass is carried over from the 1st billing month to the next it will be charged pro-rata for that 1st month alone.

They don't actually need to justify it they can charge what they like but seeing as we are outside the EU now thanks to certain people we don't benefit from what we used to, you can thank the 52% for that.

Just had the same thing. In August I paid £25 for a one month roaming pass in the USA. I’ve just been told that is no longer available and the cost is now £25 for a 7 day pass in the USA. An increase of over 300%. Ee again ripping off their customers for profit, it’s sick. I’ll be leaving in a few months once my contract is up, had enough of them.

Just seen the same! Absolutely outrageous increase!

Just outrageous! More than a 400% increase and when I asked ee why,  the unfortunate agent who had to try and explain this outrage told  me there were two reasons.

Firstly, inflation. That covers 1% of the rise!

Secondly, many more countries are included. That means to use my phone in the US the rise is 400% and now that applies in  many more countries.

My sympathies are with ee's customers and the staff who  have to justify the greed of 'the UK's best network eleven years  in a row'.

I don’t disagree with any of the comments around the pricing / fairness etc.

Just wanted to share two possible ways around it:

1. The Full Works plan include EU roaming and the ROW1. Depending on how often you travel and the price point you can get it at, can be worth it.

2. If you’re on an old All Rounder Plan (the ones where you had an inclusive extra and could previously select Roam Firther) then you can switch that add on to the EU add on or the ROW1 add on depending where you’re going.

I told my boss this and he switched his inclusive extra to ROW1 to cover South Africa, when he’s back, he’ll switch it back to EU roaming to cover upcoming trips to Hungary.

So just an idea for those on the right plans.

This is also one of the improvements that isn't often mentioned. Pre-refresh only the EU, Mexico, Canada, USA, Australia & NZ were available on the flat-rate regime. Now the vast majority of countries have a flat-rate option - a notable improvement in the far-eastern countries such as HK, Singapore & Malaysia.
