Refer a friend not working

I have a received a referral link via email to send to a friend. When they click on it, the web page says it can't find the page. When I click on the link, it says I can't refer myself, so I know it works. What's going on? Why can't my friend join EE via my referral link?

We've tried safari and chrome with the same result. The web page cannot be found!
