Hi, does anyone have any suggestions please- for the last 4 weeks or so I've been unable to send texts from my iphone in UK to my Mum's mobile phone number in Ireland- she has a basic mobile (not a smartphone). Up until recently this wasn't a problem and I could send texts to her successfully but now they don't go through at all! I'd be very grateful for any ideas!

Is your Mum using a UK mobile roaming in Ireland? Or is she using an Irish mobile?
Can you text other numbers? And if she's using an Irish number, can you text other Irish numbers?
What happens when you try sending your Mum a text message?

My Mum has an Irish mobile. I can text all other numbers fine including my sister who is also living in Ireland with an Irish mobile. When I try to send my Mum a text message there is no response or any sign that it’s been sent.

Does your phone say "message sent" or indicator to the same effect?

No- phone doesn’t say message sent or no indicator to same effect.

Areyou on contract or PAYG? If PAYG, do you have enough credit to send texts abroad?

Hi, I’m on PAYG and yes, I have enough credit to send texts abroad.

Good! Are you inserting anything, like emoticons, into the texts that could possibly turn them into MMS which a non-smartphone might not accept.

No- not using any emoticons or anything similar just basic text.

I'll rephrase my previous question... presumably your phone used to send messages to your Mum's Irish number exactly the same as any other number... but are you saying that it's now not saying "message sent" or anything, but is (presumably) giving a "message failed" or similar?
Can you call your Mum's Irish number?
