Do i need to let EE know that i am going abroad or will my data work regardless?

Believe you need the "Roam further" add on. I have this included as part of my phone plan but it needs activating. Includes the USA, EU, Australia for data allowance purposes.

I would check your account first if you can login online, and see if you can add the add-on. If not, call EE on 150 from your EE mobile.

As I understand your data might work abroad but you will be subject to huge roaming fees, I'm not entirely sure if roaming fees are restricted by a spend cap, so even if you have a £10 spend cap you might still be able to exceed this with roaming fees if you don't get some form of "Roam further" plan.

Which country are you going to? Some of them aren't included in the Roam Further plan anyway.

No, but If you are on contract, remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to ensure roaming is enabled on your account.

Where are you going? The Roam Further Pass mentioned by @WS1995 is not applicable outside the EU, US, Oz & 3 other non-EU countries. It does cover more than just data.
