Why is EE so rubbish?

I was encouraged to move from BT to EE. I was sent a new SIM but now my 'phone number is different from the one I have used for many years for users trying to contact me by text message ?

@Klacto  If you requested to retrain your number your number will be ported over to that new sim.  This should happen by Tuesday if you request to keep it. 

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Your number is transferred by requesting a PAC from your existing provider (BT) and giving it to your new provider (EE). Your number is then transferred the working day after you supplied the PAC.

Have you given EE your PAC, and if so when?

That's what they said a few weeks ago.
