Which of the 24 month sim only plans are 5G ready?

Hi guys.

I have been looking at the sim only options for my partner, ideally she is wanting a 5G plan, but am left a bit confused as to which of the 24 month sim only plans would give 5G connectivity.

The only mentions on the plan are "Excellent speeds max 100Mbps" or the other which is "Our best speeds, no max Mbps". Previously the plans used to mention 5G ready, so it was easy to see at a glance which plans would give 5G connectivity.

Hi @James_B yes I'm well thanks, hope to find you the same 😀

Ok I see. I was just a little confused with some of the tariffs mentioning excellent speeds and others saying our best speeds.

Am I correct in thinking that the plans that mention "excellent speeds max 100 Mbps" are speed capped?

Where the others that mention "Our best speeds, no max Mbps" are not speed capped?

That's right @Fatboy71 🙂

Have a great week.

Yes EE seem to think they can charge a premium for you to have the fastest speeds.

They seem to think they can increase the tariffs beyond inflation because they won an award 9 years running.

I have the best speeds on my Sim Only plan I got back in 2020 with no desire to upgrade. The only reason I haven't already jumped ship is because my wifes account is still within contract and we got her a low GB monthly allowance as every month I gift her 100GB at start of the month so I didn't have to get her a higher priced tariff.

Once she is ready to upgrade we will both be moving away from EE unless they we think their pricing strategy.

Youve answered your own question and are spot on, but just to add a bit more confusion, the above is not strictly true when it comes to new Unlimited Data Plans, a 5G No Max Mbps is Speed capped once you hit EE's Fair Use Policy (600gb), its capped quiet considerably as well, as in only 4G Speeds.

Not to sure what happens with a 5G UL Data max 100 Mbps Plan when you hit the FUP, but no doubt it will be speed capped somehow.

Thanks @James_B you have a great week too 🙂

@BrendonH I must admit that we both thought that the current tariffs were not very good value for money at all, when compared to the older plans. In light of that my partner has decided to stay on her current sim only tariff that she got back in 2017. She said she will forgo the 5G connectivity, which hopefully in time as the 5G rollout spreads further, she might get 5G on her current tariff (like as what happen when 4G first came out, and then eventually everyone connected on to it regardless of their tariff).

I agree, you should get the fastest speeds without having to pay a premium for it. After all, EE's adverts say they have won awards for this, that, and the other, so giving customers the fastest speeds/best experience should be given to everyone, regardless of the tariff price.

I too have no desire to change my sim only plan as the older plans in my opinion offer far better value for money. My plan was taken out around 2016, and I've looked at sim only plans on countless occasions after my minimum term had been reached, and there has not been any plans yet, that made me think "thats a good plan/good value plan I think I'll move on to that".
