So I am going to Canada for 2 weeks. Either I can pay £5.48 a day for 500MB with a travel data pass, or I can pay £10 for the whole month and use my whole 20GB allowance with Roam Further.

Am I missing something? Why the choice?

You're not missing anything. If you can get the roaming pass, get it. It's great value.

Add it a few days before you go, remove it when you land back here. Check you have roaming enabled as well before you go by testing roaming to 150.

To add to the reply above, remember adding a billing-addon does not automatically enable the roaming facility - it is this which enables your phone to connect to local networks in foreign countries.

Some countries don't fall into the 'Roam Further' group of countries so the first option (pay for a limited amount of data) is the only option.

Clearly as you can get Roam Further, you're going to go for it. Especially as it's so much cheaper than getting a Canadian local sim (mobile telephony is super expensive there compared to here).

As @chistery said above, you want to be sure you have roaming enabled on your phone before you travel. So at any point between now and then, text the word ROAMING to 150 and the reply should confirm that roaming is set up.

Add your Roam Further and you'll be good to go. Enjoy Canada 👍
