@Ianwalker : Are you on contract or PAYG?
If you are on contract, you can stop the £25 Roam Abroad Pass by texting STOP ROAMING PASS to 150. The £2.47 daily EU roaming charge is only incurred when you choose to use any of your UK allowances in the EU.
On PAYG in the EU you are only charged for roaming when you buy either the £2.50 / day or the £10 / week "Roam-like-Home" add-ons.

The answer depends what roaming charges you mean. If you're asking about a roaming add-on, then cancel the add-on. The previous reply advises how, for the Roaming Pass.
If you're asking about other roaming charges such as per-minute call charges or per-text charges, then enable flight mode on your phone to ensure no mobile network connection is available.
