You won't be charged anything extra for roaming in the EU on PAYG. As yet EE haven't introduced any charges for PAYG users to use their UK allowances in the EU & haven't said when they will. Just look at the Spanish Roaming Charges page for PAYG & you'll see there are no extra charges unlike contract.

For Spain you can use your pack as if in the UK at no extra cost.  Make sure you’ve used you PaYG sim in the UK before you go for a chargeable activity (not from pack allowance) before you go there as this activates a PaYG sim for roaming…if you haven’t done this the sim will be barred from roaming and this cannot be resolved whilst the sim is out of the UK.  When in Spain make sure you manually connect to Movistar rather than Orange.

This is happening to me right now. I moved from contract to PAYG while abroad and now my sim is disconnected 😥

I'm not in the UK atm. Is there anything else I can do to activate my sim for roaming?

@MilenaG : Only by bringing it back to the UK & using it here. As you switched to PAYG while abroad you can't now use it until you return to UK. EE PAYG SIMs need 1st activating on EE's home UK network.

I’m afraid not.  The sim will have to be connected to the UK network and a chargeable action carried out.  If you are abroad for a while the only real solution is to post the sim to a friend or whatever in the UK and get them to do that and send it back to you.  There is no way anything can be done whilst the sim is not in the UK.

Thanks a lot for the idea.

Does EE PAYG expire? How long EE will keep my number? As the sim is not activated and it will take time to arrive in the UK and come back.

You have 6 months non use before a reversible hibernation.  If no use (chargeable action) after 9 months the sim is deactivated and the number is lost and cannot be recovered.

Thanks for your help.

Much appreciated it 🙂

Please can I clarify? I have PAYG from EE and have always used "packs" for calls and data. I don't think I have ever made an out of bundle call. I'm am travelling to France soon and you seem to be saying that unless I put some extra credit on and make a chargeable call outside of the bundle somehow  my SIM will stop working as soon as I land in France and there is NO way of resolving this until I get back to the UK? 😞

Thanks
