Roaming in Germany on Telekom is Working :). (at least for now)

I have been visiting Germany regularly for many years.  I always had a great service roaming on Telekom (formerly T-Mobile D ), but a few years ago roaming on Telekom was blocked and we were left with O2 (which had no service where we stayed and poor throughput in many areas) as well as Vodafone.de 3G and 2G (no 4G or 5G), but as Vodafone DE decommissioned their 3G network in Germany we were left with only very poor 2G GPRS only, so ended up having to buy alternate SIMs as roaming with EE was unusable.

When we arrived here in Germany again two weeks ago we found that O2.de and Vodafone.de now both allow 4G and 5G roaming, but Telekom Germany still wouldn’t allow access, even if manually selected.  So much better, but still not ‘great’.

However, we’ve noticed in the last couple of days that we can now access Telekom Germany, and have great coverage and great 4G/5G performance.  I’m really hoping this is permanent and not just a glitch, nor just for the Euro 2024 football.

Hi @tcp1p

Welcome to the community.

Roaming agreements with other providers change from time to time. Your phone should connect to the strongest available network when you arrive, and allow you to connect to other networks that we have an agreement with.

I spoke to soon, as of 10th June 2024,  roaming on Telekom in Germany is blocked again, all three of our devices have now disconnected and won’t reconnect.  On auto network selection they find Vodafone.de and O2.de, which both work adequately (including 4G and some 5G), although the performance and coverage isn’t as good as on a Telekom where we stay in the south of Germany, but still, it is much better than the previous few years when we could only access 2G & GPRS.

Shame they lost Telekom again 😞 they are a lot better than O2 and Vodafone. Does it work if you try to register multiple times? Sometimes EE steers to the cheaper networks but if you try hard enough you'll often be let on.

Also just wondering is there any VoLTE roaming with EE on O2, Vodafone or Telekom? Seems like EE are the only network without this feature now (excluding AT&T USA because that is likely via Syniverse and not EE's own solution)
