Roaming in Corfu - no network connection

I landed in Corfu this afternoon. Roaming was switched on and confirmed before we left the UK with a monthly fee of £15 each.. Neither mine or my husband’s phone will connect to any network

  • Switched both phones off and on again several times.
  • Tried automatic and manual networks.
  • Connected to hotel wi-fi & confirm in the EE app that both phones are on roaming.
  • £30 charge for nothing! 

Any advice please?

What you've added is a billing add-on to reduce the cost of roaming, I don't see any confirmation of the roaming facility being enabled - which is what allows your phone to connect to foreign networks.

This is free of charge, and is normally done by texting ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK. I don't believe there is an option on either the myEE website or app to check roaming, can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing? I suspect this could be the data-roaming option - which just means "can I use data whilst roaming". There isn't an option to enable voice-roaming or text-roaming, but they would be the equivalent.

Did you text ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK?

Same for us in Corfu. It was seamless and much easier before people voted to leave Brexit!

As per my previous post - that text message refers to a billing add-on which reduces the cost of roaming. Your phone still needs the roaming facility enabling, which allows access to foreign networks.

This is normally done by texting ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK - did you do this? In the absence of confirmation otherwise, the assumption would be that you haven't. This would certainly explain your symptoms, and the only recourse now is contact CS from another means, be that a working phone or a web-calling app such as Skype over WiFi (use +44 800 0798586) and request roaming is enabled.

Brexit hasn't changed anything so far as enabling phones to work abroad is concerned, this has always been roaming. The only change as a result of Brexit is the cost of roaming, which is not an issue in your case as you have already chosen an add-on. What you don't appear to have done, is enable roaming - you would have needed to do this before Brexit just as much as you need to now.

EE have no WhatsApp contact, else I'd have suggested it previously.

EE CS are on +44 800 0798586 which can be dialled over a free Skype account.
