I am currently in Australia. I have a pay monthly contract. Can I buy a roaming abroad pass now? I didn’t do it before I left.

@aussieirish : Yes, thro' the Add-ons on your EE a/c.
But did you also not activate roaming on your EE a/c before you left UK by texting ROAMING to 150? If so, all the billing add-ons in the world like this will be useless. Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

hi thanks. Last year I was in France and actives roaming. Does that count? If not, then no I didn’t text 150 before I left. Can’t I do that now and deal with the text charge before roaming kicks in? If not I’ll just get a local SIM card and/or just use Wi-Fi for data.

You first need to separate the free roaming facility (which enables access to foreign networks), from any billing add-on you choose.
If you have already enabled roaming, it is only removed if you specifically request so. However, you can also activate it on an EU-only basis or alternatively full global.
Do you have a connection to any Australian networks? Or did you receive a welcome text message on first arrival? Both are good evidence of roaming being active.
If you now find yourself abroad without having enabled roaming, your only recourse will be to contact CS to request it activated. You can either contact +44 7953 966150 from another working phone, or +44 800 0798586 using a web-calling app such as Skype over WiFi.
