Roaming (Turkey)

Hi

I'm after some advice on what is the best way to do this.

My wife and I will be going to Turkey for 5 days next month. What is the best option to allow our phones to operate during our 5 days out there?

I appreciate that we will be outside of the EU, so wondering is there some sort of daily roaming top-up I can purchase, or would I need to purchase something for the month?

If so, how do I go about activating this? Will it need to be done immediately prior to us departing?

Thanks for any advice

Paul

As it is not in EU, you cannot use your usual UK allowances there but will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs/countries/turkeyandnortherncyprus .

If you are on contract, remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to ensure roaming is enabled on your account.

@hawkerpaul , firstly make sure that you have roaming, call abroad and premium rate enabled  in your account in settings, if you are unable to do so, you will have to call customer service to enable this.

Second, if you take a look here, you will see the charges for roaming in Turkey:

https://ee.co.uk/contact-ee/account-billing/mobile

Customer service can also help, but best to make sure you have it all set-up before going abroad.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using Skype or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.

Thanks @shockwave

I might be better off getting a data travel pass at £6.85 a day.

Does this include calls, or is this JUST for data? Is there something I can purchase for calls?

Also, would I be able to purchase these daily add-ons when I'm out there? Ie.  whilst in Turkey will texting TRAVEL to 150 still work?

Thanks

Hi @hawkerpaul,

Yes, the Travel Data Pass is only for data use. You can add it before you travel, and you will only be charged on the days you use mobile data.

For calls, you can purchase World Select Talk and Text.

Hope this helps.

I will get charged in Turkey for taking an incoming call.

Does that mean I will also get charged for any SMS I receive? If so, if I opt in to WORLD, will this mean that the first text I receive will cost me £6.85?

Thanks

Paul

Hi @hawkerpaul

There is no charge to receive a text message, please see charges for Turkey in our Roaming Costs Help page.

Have a lovely time, I recently returned from Turkey and the weather was amazing 🙂
