Roaming Thailand

Hello

I have a yearly sim contract (taken out in 2018) with 100GB data. I am looking at booking a Thailand holiday, and am unsure about plans/add-ons?

I was previously in Thailand in 2019 (regularly using data) and I dont remember buying any particular add-on.

Guidance?

kindest regards

Paul

@psmith_gb : As it is not in EU, you cannot use your usual UK allowances there but will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs/countries/thailand .

If you are on contract, remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to check roaming is enabled on your account.

Thank you XRaySpeX, I just don’t remember paying £6.85 per day for 500MB (or the 2019 equivalent) on my earlier trip. I must be most forgetful, or I relied on free hotel wifi etc and turned off mobile data to prevent accidental uploads of photo backups etc.

At least I now know I it’s the Travel Data Pass.

Thank for your time.

Regards

Paul

There's always been a charge for buying data outside the EU.

Thanks! You're welcome 🙂 ! Glad I could be of assistance & it is now sorted.

Hi @psmith_gb

Depending on how you plan to use your phone in Thailand. it may be worth looking at a local SIM card to use whilst you're there.

I was in the Far East in Jan/Feb and am an iPhone user. I had my UK sim as my eSim and had the data roaming set to off. Just meant I still received incoming texts / iMessages. I then bought a AIS (Thai network) tourist sim and put the physical SIM card in my phone. Meant all my data usage as at local rates and also meant I had a local number to be contacted on also.

The cherry on the cake was the the AIS tourist sim also gave me full 5G coverage during my time in Thailand but then they also offered roaming bolt ons (very well priced) which allowed me to continue using the sim in Singapore. With full 5G roaming!

Enjoy your trip.
