Re: Roaming not working in the US

Hi  James,

Apologies to reply to such an old post but I seem to only have trouble with EE when roaming abroad in the USA.  I've recently had to start travelling to Dallas Tx  USA and I can never seem to get roaming to work.  I called one of your colleagues/ Help service about 2/3 weeks prior to arriving in the USA.  The date I landed was the 7th of March and the activation was set for the 6th of March (This is what I was told and I did receive roaming texts prior to the US where I followed instruction).

I've unfortunately exhausted the options available and can't find anything on myEE to selected 'activate' as suggested in some other help posts.    When I arrived I checked the manual settings and didn't find anything connectable as well as nothing on the automatic connect either ( I have a pixel 3a).  I'm now a week into being in the US and still unable to get this to work effectively.  I'm currently having to dip into cafe's and other Wifi available areas in order to stay on top of work communication and family.

I understand that this isn't yourself but if EE aren't able to make effective coverage deals for its customers in the US and Canada (That actually works)  it's no wonder that 99% of the US population are with T-mobile. I'm very much on the brink of joining T-Mobile myself, just to get the basic coverage for my frequent trips here.

Now as far as I'm aware I've paid the extra charge for roaming but am not receiving any of these extra benefits. It's quite disappointing, if you have any suggestions at all or if my account hasn't been set up correctly please if you could check or direct me to a live help page I would be very grateful.

This highlights another difficult navigable issue is that if things go wrong there's no way to contact your teams hence why I'm replying to an old post. A clear  "Issues when overseas" button would be extremely helpful on your roaming page.

  • I'm on a pay monthly SIM

Appreciate all your help in advance,

Hope to hear from you soon,

All the best

Roaming itself, which allows your phone to connect to foreign networks, is a free service. What you've paid for is a billing add-on, which is separate from the roaming facility.

It sounds from your description, that you've used roaming in other locations/countries, and therefore the facility is self-evidently active.

If you have issues with VoLTE for whatever-reason, you should be able to roam onto T-Mobile's 2G network to make & receive calls, as per https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-and-international/using-your-device-abroad/roaming-in-the-usa
