Hi, I am going on a cruise soon overing the Caribbean, USA and Mexico. I think I can get 500mb of data, but is that the £9.50 add on and can you tell me how long that will last, just using WhatsApp, email and social media - no streaming?

Thanks

Hi there @Willows

Thanks for coming here 🙂

You can find details on adding the Roam Further Pass and removing this when you return in our How do I get the Roam Further Pass? Help page.

Please make sure the phone is set up to use abroad, to do this log into your My EE account online go to Menu > Account Settings > Parental and Data Controls > Enable Roaming and also Make calls abroad from the UK > They will show as ticked if roaming and calling abroad is activated.

Have a lovely time.

@Willows : I don't recognise a 500MB £9.50 data add-on.

If you are on contract, there is the Travel Data Pass giving you 500MB per day for £5.48 a day in USA or £6.85 a day elsewhere. Alternatively you may buy the Roam Abroad Pass for £10 / month to enable you to use your UK allowances in USA & Mexico.

As you'll be outside EU, you cannot use your usual UK allowances there but will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in e.g. https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs/countries/usa & https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs/countries/jamaica .

While at sea outside range of any land networks https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs/countries/maritime--ships--ferries-and-cruises applies.

If you are on contract, remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to ensure roaming is enabled on your account.

Ah, OK! £9.50 + VAT = £11.40. When it 1st came out it was £10 but they've since put the price up.

That's not just a 500MB add-on as you mentioned in your OP, but it allows you to use all your allowances in US etc. with up to 50GB data if you have more.

I can’t work out whether I need this or just pay the daily charge?

Isn't it a no brainer? The daily charge is over £5 for a tiddly amount of data.

Yes, I am in the USA for a total of 3 days, and 1 day in Mexico, so perhaps the monthly charge will be better. 500mb of data isn’t a lot but a few hours worth for one day is still chepaer than the usual excess.

If US & Mexico follow on directly you could only pay for say 6 days (~ £1.90) by buying it the day before & cancelling it the day after.
