Every now and again I get charged for picture messaging when I haven't put pictures on messages.
What's going on.

Most phones give an onscreen notification when content in a text message triggers a conversion to multimedia messages - be it "converting to multimedia" while typing or something similar.
This is a phone function, not a network one.
