No network available in the USA. In a remote area with only 4G available but I have no option to select 4G. My phone works fine in Europe.

Are you on PAYG or pay-monthly? And are you using iOS or Android?
As long as you have network selection set to "auto" (or similar) that should normally suffice.
Which networks are showing as available on a manual search?
