I have just bought a new phone and contract but need to keep the same number, my current phone is with EE but the account is in a family members name. will I keep the same number that I have now or will it change when my new phone arrives.

Changing phones while keeping your number is called upgrading. If you bought your new phone as an upgrade, you would simply transfer your existing SIM and thus retain your number as a matter of course.

If you've bought your new phone as a new connection, you'll need to return it under the 14day statutory "change of mind" right of return, and then purchase it again as an upgrade.

This presumes you bought it online or via telesales, where the 14day rule applies. Phones bought in EE retail shops have no such automatic right of return.
