Network not working in Quebec

I've been in Canada for a year and I switch my sim over to my UK sim when I need to do authentication e.g. online banking, tax etc. I've never had a problem using roaming abroad with EE in Quebec but this week my UK sim doesnt seem to work at all with the network tab displaying the SOS sign. Does anyone else have this problem abroad at the moment? Is it usually temporary?

Hi @CGW567

Welcome to the community.

Is your UK SIM card on a pay monthly contract plan or pay as you go? When was the last time you used it to make a call, or send a text message?

Chris

It’s a pay monthly sim and I used it two weeks ago when I was back in the UK where it worked perfectly normal. I didn’t seem to have any trouble with it when I arrived back before changing over to my Canadian sim. It tried to connect to network when I put it on airplane mode and the off again but keep defaulting to the SOS. Thanks!

Have you tried selecting a network manually @CGW567?

For iPhone go to - Settings > Mobile Data > Network Selection > Turn off Automatic

For Android go to - Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Operators > Tap OK

Hi,

I’ve tried this and can connect to other networks like Bell and TELUS for about 5 minutes with 5/4G before it goes back to the SOS. When it is connected I can use the internet but my messages on iPhone don’t work so I can’t receive any texts through my UK number which is what I really need. I’ve checked local coverage and non of the network providers are down at the moment. I don’t really want to call EE from here on my Canadian sim as it will cost a lot to do. Thanks!

I'm not sure what could be causing the problem, @CGW567. It sounds from your description that roaming is activated, as it works in the short period where you can get a signal. The only thing I can recommend now is speaking to our technical support team.

It may be cheaper to call through a VoIP service, such as Skype rather than an international mobile plan.
