Live in Canada but unable to phone/text with UK phone. How do I keep it active

Have UK phone due to need to have UK contact phone number when in UK. In Canada for 5-6 months at a time. How can I keep the phone active on my monthly pack when I cannot call or text in Canada. Have network connection but message says service blocked?

Your PAYG pack is not valid outside EU. You need to top-up and send a chargeable text within every 179 days to keep it active.
