Cost of wifi calling from abroad

Hi,

I am currently abroad (outside of the EU). Roaming and mobile data are switched off. Wifi calling is switched on and I am able to make calls. Can someone please tell me if I am paying for my calls? I read in this forum that wifi calling only works in the UK and caling from abroad incurs standard international charges. However, how can charges even apply if roaming and mobile data are switched off?

Many thanks

Alex

You are charged the same using WiFi Calling as you would be when you make the call directly over the mobile network. WiFi Calling is just a means of routing the signal when the mobile signal is weak or non-existent. It is not intended as a cost saver.

WiFi Calling is not guaranteed to work abroad.

Mobile data isn't used for calls & texts. So it's irrelevant anyway.

Hi Chris,

yes there are signal bars. Good thing it was only a  couple of minutes. Could have been worse at 2.50/min 🙂
