Hi, I phoned CS to enquire about Roaming charges in Madeira, and was told by the Assistant that Madeira was not covered (when you enter 'Madeira' in the search field it is not recognised as a 'country') and was advised to buy a local SIM card when I get there!
Would someone PLEASE confirm whether this is correct or not? My wife and myself are going to Madeira next week and she needs to be in contact with family in the UK at all times.
And if you can get EE roaming in Madeira, would you please update your website !!!!! Is Madeira just treated as part of mainland Portugal? Are the Canary Islands just treated as part of Spain?
Come on EE, this is not the first time this has been asked - though I have yet to see a defintive answer anywhere!
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Yes, Madeira is part of Portugal which is in the EU.
You may use your usual UK allowances in the EU with up to 50 GB (contract) or 25 GB (PAYG) data per billing month if you have more. If on contract & your contract started after 07/07/2021 there'll be a £2.29 / day charge for using your UK allowances in EU or alternatively you may buy the Roam Abroad Pass for £15 / month.
On PAYG there are charges for using your pack allowances in the EU of either £2.50 / day or £10 / week, to be taken only from your PAYG credit, not your recurring card payment. If you opt for neither you will be paying standard rates for calls & texts.
If you are on contract, remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to ensure roaming is enabled on your account.

Yes, Madeira comes under Portugal and you can roam there.
Just make sure that you text ROAMING to 150 before you leave otherwise it will not work at all.
Thanks,
Alex
