Can I swap sims in the same account on a phone plan?

So for context I have 2 sim plans in my account, one which has a phone plan associated and one with no phone plan yet. I have the phone plan and my boyfriend doesn’t. My phone plan is associated with my SIM number and now I have ordered a new iPhone for him that is associated with his number. I would keep his new phone and he would get my old phone plan. Can my SIM number go in his new phone?
