What have you bought & from whom? You can't have bought a contract from EE in Spain. So have you bought a PAYG phone with an EE SIM in it?
EE PAYG SIMs need 1st activating on EE's home UK network before they can be used abroad. If it wasn't you can't now use it until you return to UK.

I don't see what that has to with what phone the OP has, as I asked. Would one write SIM in caps if that were the case?

@XRaySpeX , I was just answering to your question about Open Sim, which I looked up, so wondering whether it had something to do with it having an Open Sim, I have read all the threads before replying, by the way.
Never heard of Open Sim either before.

- A53 no sim2 - greyed out in SIM cards & Porting
- 7 day Roaming pass in USA - data works but can't make calls or texts in Roaming
- Some texts I'm sending originate from the original SIM phone number. in SIM cards & Porting
- Very poor signal/mobile data when switching from O2 to EE in Mobile Network discussions
- Galaxy 23ultra and Galaxy watch ultra esim issues in Mobile Services
