I am elderly and I have a little Nokia phone which I use to text and phone people. I am not able to connect to Wii Fi. I am going to Australia in October will I be able to use it there? I am on a pay as you go contract. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Yes, you can use EE phones in Australia, but you cannot be on a "pay as you go contract". Using a mobile phone abroad is called roaming.
PAYG is a pre-payment top-up based service where you can only spend the credit you have. Contract generally refers to a pay-monthly billed service where you receive a bill each month.
PAYG phones are auto-enabled for roaming on first use in the UK, pay-monthly phones need to be enabled manually.
Costs for both can be viewed at https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs

Yes. Outside the EU, you cannot use your usual UK allowances there but will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs/countries/australia > PAYG.
As you are on PAYG, make sure you have already used your PAYG SIM to make a call or text in the UK.
