Did you mean:

I can't receive or make phone calls

I am experiencing the exact same problem currently in Australia. Data and SMS work, but I can't receive or make phone calls.

Post moved to a new thread.

But the question in the post you replied to, is relevant..

If texts & data work, you have a local network connection. I suspect your issue is more likely related to VoLTE/4G-calling. Try manually cycling through each local network in-turn - are the symptoms the same on each one?

Currently where I am located, I am only able to connect to Optus. Is it the case that EE has still not enabled VoLTE roaming? This might explain why I can access data via roaming but not calls.

Hi @Ancatdubh,

Welcome to the Community!

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're having during your trip. It does sound like your phone may not have international calling activated, so we would need you to speak with our team about this. Are you able to give us a call on anyone you're travelling with's phone?

That could explain the lack of outgoing calls - easily tested with trying an in-country number.

I don't see how it would cause incoming calls to fail.

I have tried to call both UK and Australian numbers, and have tried to receive calls from UK and Australian numbers with no success.

I experience the same issue when connected to Optus, Telstra, and Vodaphone networks here in Australia.

My partner is also on the same EE plan (using an Oppo device) and has had no difficulty calling UK and Australian numbers. We both have Roaming Pass.

Perhaps if note is that I have a Fairphone 4, so I am wondering whether my device has not been whitelisted for VoLTE on Australian networks as it is not sold here (Oppo devices are sold here).

Putting aside the popular mis-spelling of the Vodafone network...

Try a 2way SIM-swap.

Put your partner's working SIM in your non-working phone and test calls - what result?

Put your non-working SIM in your partner's working phone and test calls - what result?

This will ID whether the issue follows your SIM (account-related) or phone (device/hardware-related)

The results of the 2-way SIM swap was that my SIM worked for phone calls in my partner's Oppo phone, and his SIM was now unable to make phone calls in my Fairphone.

So it appears to be device-related.

I agree with your conclusion.

If your phone was supplied by EE, then this should be reported to CS for a single-user fault to be raised.
