Absence of voicemail

Recently upgraded my mobile phone with EE. When my husband rings my number (unchanged) and I don’t answer, rather than go to voicemail an automated voice says he’s going to be transferred to our local police service.

When I ring his number and he doesn’t answer, I’m told to call back later - there’s no option to leave a message.

Help!

Hi @EileenB1

Welcome to the community.

If you could let us know what kind of phone you both have, we'll be able to help try and fix this for you. If they're Android phones, could you try following these instructions?

  1. Call settings
  2. Supplementary Services
  3. Call forwarding
  4. Forward when unanswered
  5. Set this to the EE voicemail number: +44 7953 222 222
  6. Update

Let us know if this helps please.

Thanks

Chris

Thank you, Christopher. We’ll try what you’ve suggested and let you know. We do both have Androids - Samsungs - my husband’s is an A50 and mine us an A57.

You have a "divert on no answer" to, most likely, 101.

Your husband either doesn't have a divert to voicemail set, or more likely doesn't have voicemail enabled.

Just checked and you’re right - the setting was to forward to 101. Thank you.

Yes, your suggestion did work, thank you. However, my husband seems to have lost his Voicemail facility - when I ring his number, it tells me to call again later rather than go to voicemail. In his phone is Call Settings there doesn’t seem to be a Direct Voicemail option (as there is in mine). Is there another way for him to enable Voicemail? He’s entered the VM number you gave above in the Call Forwarding option, but it doesn’t “take”, if you see what I mean. It doesn’t get applied.

My husband has an A50 but the Voicemail seems to be not working. When I ring him and he doesn’t answer, a message tells me to call back later rather than allow me to leave a message. His phone doesn’t have a “Direct Voicemail” setting. How can he activate voicemail?
