Hi I'm on pay as you go and the ping on speedtest used to only be about 19ms, Web browsing or general use felt very snappy on 4g, often better than other networks' 5g.
I was considering going on contract but since about end of May the ping latency is even worse than other networks, often around 39ms and worse. What's happened?
I've used different phones and tried different areas and someone else I know had a pay as you go sim and the same issue.
So I know it's not the sim and not my phone. Has anyone else experienced this ? What ping are you getting on speedtest 4g. Is this only affecting pay as you go ?
Also what is it on 5g, as pay as you go doesn't allow 5g access
Thanks for your help.

Hi @Eeping,
Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂
39ms isn't considered to be particularly high, is it causing you any issues?

Could be your falling fail of EE's new Speed Cap (max 25mbs) introduced for PAYG earlier this year.

Hi James thanks for your reply
It varies from 39 to 54ms
Yes it does cause issues, before it was 19ms was very snappy and overseas webpages loaded very quick too. Now it's sluggish no better than voxi.
I'm just wondering why has it gone from the Best payg network to a sluggish one

It's not so much the top speed
The latency was so good before everything was snappy.
I would consider going on contract, infact putting 4 lines on contract but
I need to know what 4g ping and 5g ping is like on speedtest on contract line ? Any help appreciated

Just now, Traffic is heavy at the moment, speeds are about average for this time of Day, I get reasonable 4G Coverage, but quiet poor 5G Coverage in my Area, average of 3 Tests - .
4G+ = 67 DL, 48 UL, 23ms Ping
4G+5G = 287 DL, 21 UL, 21ms Ping
Tests are via an Huawei CPE Router with IPV set to IPV4 Only.

Thanks for checking
23ms much more reasonable, so must be they have reduced payg performance overall.
I'm getting pings 39 to up to 64
Where before would get 19 to
maybe 24ms max
Are you getting same results on a phone ?

In last 3 weeks I’ve noticed the latency on my pay monthly sim is changing regularly at 10:30am and 10:30pm. Overnight it’s at about 25ms and the link runs at 80M/35M with no problems, during the day it increases to 60-70ms and speed drops to 5M downstream but strangely upstream stays the same at 35M ??
The change is a sharp transition not a gradual change.
Any ideas ? Is there a rate cap being applied on 4G ?
Thanks for any help
